Editorial: Unacceptable Lust
Mr. Enoch Lamptey-Mills has lashed out at the media for not turning a blind eye to his lustful affairs with one of the kids under his care when she was a pupil in Great Lamptey Mills School, of which he is proprietor.

The tone of his statement at the press conference was devoid of remorse and we find this an unacceptable deficiency in him as a person, given the magnitude of the social aberration he now wears around as an adult.

We would have ignored the school proprietor’s reaction for its unworthiness but suffice it to editorialise on the matter, with a view to assisting our compatriots make sound deduction from the issue under review.

Mr. Lamptey-Mills should note that the issue we are worried about, as are other Ghanaians, is why he failed to control his lust which eventually led him to subdue the then kid and putting her in a family way.

How many parents would contain this level of aberration from a school proprietor? Imagine sending your daughter to a school only to be told one morning or afternoon that the proprietor had broken her virginity and even put her in the family way?

Then the adult delinquent turns round to say he would put up a house for her. We smell a situation where parents have been subdued by a somewhat irresistible promise.

Using material items to cover what is by all standards a social anomaly cannot pass sense and it is along these lines we and the generality of Ghanaians regard the Lamptey-Mills debacle.

It is a shameful action and if the proprietor thinks he can use a press conference to cover his uncontrollable lust, then he has lost the fight.

Mr. Lamptey-Mills’ attempt at simplifying what is a very serious matter does not cease to surprise us.

He has chosen the easy path of politicizing a subject which should be treated this way.

For him, he is a victim of his detractors who are envious of him because of the award former President Kufuor bestowed on him. If this is not bunkum, we do not know of any.

We find it too simplistic, given the fact that the school proprietor actually had an affair with the girl when she was indeed a schoolgirl in his school.

Did the anomaly take place or not? If Mr. Lamptey-Mills did not find anything wrong with his action, then all we can say is God save this country.

It is unacceptable to admire a kid under your care as a teacher and school proprietor and even go beyond such admiration to the unimaginable act of fondling her body, with a view to engaging her in an untoward act.

We would have expected the man, at this stage when civil society bodies and the Ghana Education Service have decided to take another look at the issue, to just shut up and like a mongrel, tuck his tail between his hind legs and shut up for God’s sake.

Mr. Lamptey-Mills is justifying what happened between him and the then school girl by also stating that she is now an adult who is preparing through his largesse to pursue further studies.

If adult teachers can afford to mess around with kids under their care and seek to cover up their nauseating actions by promising special treats, our society would have reached a precarious state.

Mr. Lamptey-Mills should allow us to nurse the social wound he has inflicted upon us as Ghanaians and stop administering salt on this open sore.

As for whether such a school should maintain its status as a centre of learning and moral upbringing, we leave the judgment to the good people of Ghana. We are done.
